Global Surge is an international non-profit organization that emerged from a humble beginning to become a driving force in global missions. Our history is a testament to the power of collaboration and the determination to help the world know Jesus Christ.
Founding and Early Years (1993-1999)
Global Surge was founded in 1993 by Dr. Greg and LuAnn Lyons to evangelize to youth in urban centers in a creative way. We saw the pressing need for a more organized and efficient approach to evangelism, discipleship, Biblical training, church planting and worldwide missions.During our early years, Global Surge was a small, passionate team of volunteers with limited resources. Our initial years focused on a single church plant and Bible college. We quickly earned a reputation for our dedication and effectiveness in reaching lost people and training them to lead.
Expanding Reach and Impact (2000-2005)
As Global Surge continued to gain momentum, we expanded our reach and began an evangelistic camp for youth. In 2001, we partnered with other established NGOs, governments, and local schools to reach more urban youth. This enabled us to leverage more resources, including a physical campsite and develop a network of churches to send teens to camp.
During this period, Global Surge also started a second church. We initiated numerous programs to Reach people with the Gospel, Raise them through Discipleship, Community Groups and Celebration Services, Renew them through Global Life University’s Bible College and Release them into the world as leaders, church planters and missionaries.
Global Advancements (2005-2017)
In the next stage, Global Surge grew its volunteer base, harnessed the power of American missionaries and improved its ministries. We developed innovative follow-up programs for campers, such as HoopHeaven basketball, music courses, and ToughGuys mixed martial arts workshops.
In 2006, we created the Global Camp team and opened our first evangelist camp outside of the Philippines. Our camps opened in Cambodia and Pakistan, learning that we did not need a campsite for the camp but we could host it anywhere and adapt.
Our first international church was launched in 2009 in Cambodia. We followed that up by buying a Buddhist school and turning it into a Christian school. Our Bible college added the School of Missions in 2016 to train people to work cross-culturally to share the Gospel.
In 2017, Global Surge felt the Lord calling them to do more around the world, not just in the Philippines. We launched the Global Missionary Clearinghouse (GMC), a means for non-Western missionaries to be sent globally to reach people with the Gospel. GMC coordinates the delivery of finances, help with visas, and provide events to help promote missions in churches.
Gospel Advancement (2018-Present)
Our churches have grown and developed more church plants, as we now have Multi-generational Church plants. Our first church planted a church in an area of the city called Floodway, they then planted a church in an area called PFCI as well as the province Laguna. Now, both the PFCI and Laguna churches have church plants. In 2021, our Bible College transitioned to have more programs under the name Global Life University as well as expanding our footprint globally. In 2022, we opened a campus in Cambodia and the United States. Throughout the pandemic and beyond, Global Surge has continued its mission of urban church planting committed to reaching this generation for Christ and transforming them into reproducing disciples that will reach the world.
Global Impact and Legacy
Today, Global Surge stands as a Global ministry reaching thousands of people with the Gospel each year. Over 1 million people have been saved through our various ministry outreaches. Thousands have graduated our Bible College and gone out to start hundreds of churches globally.
